Job Description Overview

 

The Sports Camp Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and success of the camp.  This role oversees daily operations, staff leadership, program quality, camper safety, and family communication, ensuring a positive, safe, and engaging camp experience for all participants.  Please note this is a seasonal role.

 

Skill Requirements

 

  • Proven experience managing and leading teams
  • Experience working in a school, camp, youth program, or similar educational environment
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Proficiency with Excel and other basic reporting platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and develop staff
  • Customer service oriented mindset

Key Responsibilities

 

Leadership and Management

  • Provide strong, mission-driven leadership for all camp operations
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional camp culture
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, families, and stakeholder

Program Oversight

  • Oversee development and execution of high-quality camp programming
  • Ensure programs align with camp philosophy, goals, and age-appropriate standards
  • Monitor program delivery and continuously improve camper experience
  • Serve as the steward of the Graham Athletic and Wellness Center, its facilities, and resources while camp is in season

Camper Experience and Safety

  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers
  • Enforce camp policies, procedures, and behavior expectations
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies, and parent concerns professionally and promptly.

Operations & Administration

 

  • Manage daily operations including schedules, logistics, and facilities
  • Oversee budget management, supplies, and resource allocation
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and accreditation regulations

Communication & Family Relations

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians
  • Address concerns with empathy, clarity, and professionalism
  • Represent the camp positively within the community

Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Partner with organizational leadership on planning, evaluation, and growth initiatives
  • Support marketing, enrollment, and retention efforts
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of policies, training and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, child development, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in camp, youth development, or program leadership
  • Proven experience managing teams and overseeing operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

 

  • Ability to work outdoors in variying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with campers and staff for extended periods
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings and evenings
