POSITION SUMMARY

 

In service to the Penn Charter Summer Camps, a Lead Music Day Camp counselor must embrace and model curiosity and a desire for professional growth. In this position, lead music counselors work closely and compassionately with the campers, Day Camp staff and families, and the Day Camp director. Additionally, they also demonstrate a desired commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion both in their service and in building relationships. Lead Music Day Camp Counselors are seasonal, temporary employees serving, Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 3:45 pm, from June 17-July 26th.  All counselors must attend mandatory orientation training as a prerequisite condition of employment.

 

Essential functions

 

Lead Music Day Camp counselors are responsible for:

  • Working with other camp staff members to plan, lead, and coordinate camp activities
  • Providing guidance, motivation, and support to all campers/camp visitors
  • Leading and supporting campers in age-appropriate activities
  • Creating fun and engaging activities that complement the camp theme and incorporate both song and movement activities
  • Assist bunk counselors in creating bunk songs for the end-of-camp Bunk song contest
  • Creating awards for each camper departing at the end of their stay at camp
  • Mediating any camper disputes
  • Adhering to a camp schedule provided by the Day Camp Director
  • Communicating with parents and answering any questions
  • Ensuring, cleaning and maintaining proper use of camp equipment
  • Monitoring campers to prevent accidents and ensuring compliance with camp rules
  • Reporting details of incidents, such as accidents or rules violations to the Day Camp Director
  • Monitoring and supervising campers during free play
  • Helping campers during dismissals and drop off
  • Knowing, enforcing, and following all safety guidelines associated with the Day Camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your campers at all times.  
  • Participating in staff meetings and special events (Camp Fair, Olympics, Assemblies)

Physical demands

  • Physical capability to: Frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying materials up to 20 lbs. Repetitively bend, stretch and stoop, work with children on the floor, work outdoors in a variety of weather, fully maintain sight and sound supervision of children
  • Physical ability to participate in activities

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma 
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Two Professional References who can speak to the applicant’s character, qualifications, professional experience and work ethic (Relatives are not considered professional references.)

 

 Preferred education and experience

  • College degree or currently enrolled at a college or university
  • Prior day camp experience
  • Experience working with children
